Appropriation Assignment
To appropriate a work of art means to adopt, borrow or recycle some aspect of it, while turning it into something new through personalization and re-contextualization. For this assignment you will be appropriating an iconic, contemporary or historical image. This includes painting, sculpture, photography, as well as pop culture (movie posters, famous magazine and album covers, etc). The image you choose to adapt must be recognizable. Your appropriation can be as literal or abstract as you like, as long as the reference is clear. Get creative!

Studio portrait assignment
In this assignment, you will approach the photographic process from an additive perspective, in that you will take responsibility for all aspects of creating the image from the ground up. Choice of background, lighting, model and how the model is presented are all in your control. Your image should reflect this level of total control.
J. Karsh
"There is a brief moment when all there is in a man's mind and soul and spirit is reflected through his eyes, his hands, his attitude. This is the moment to record."
Richard Avedon 1963
"All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth."
